It seems that Yahoo has been on an acquiring spree as of late. We’ve seen the tech company pickup smaller companies like Aviate which creates Android launchers; Tumblr; Blink; and Rockmelt, just to name a few. Well it looks like we can add another company to the list in the form of MessageMe.
The deal has yet to be confirmed, but according to a report from TechCrunch, they claim that the deal to acquire MessageMe could be in the double digit millions. Given that MessageMe had managed to raise $11.9 million in outside funding, we guess this doesn’t really come as a surprise, another initial reports pegged the deal at single-digit millions.
For those unfamiliar with MessageMe, it is basically a mobile messaging app that is somewhat similar to WhatsApp. The app was released a while back and managed to attract 5 million users in just 2.5 months after its launch. According to the report, all 8 of MessageMe’s team will be folded into Yahoo upon the successful acquisition of the company.
It is unclear if Yahoo plans on keeping MessageMe alive after the acquisition. While the company has kept some of their acquisitions alive, they have also been quick to shutdown services post-acquisition like they did with Rockmelt. Either way we guess we’ll have to keep an eye out for a confirmation, so do check back with us later for the details.
