It is no secret that Sony’s PlayStation 4 is doing well for itself. In fact earlier this year about half a year since its release, the Sony had managed to sell over 7 million PlayStation 4 units, so what about recently? Well according to Sony’s recent financials, it has been revealed that the company had managed to ship 3.3 million PlayStation 4 units from July to September.
Sony also noted that they had managed to ship 800,000 PlayStation 3 units during that same time period, although given that amount, it is safe to say that demand for the PlayStation 3 console is starting to dwindle, despite its larger library of games and more affordable price tag, but we suppose all good things must come to an end, right?
That being said, shipping numbers don’t necessarily translate into sales. If anything they are more of a reflection of the demand for a particular product, so with 3.3 million PlayStation 4 units shipped, it certainly looks like there is a sizable demand for Sony’s latest console. Now as far as Sony’s other gaming products are concerned, about 700,000 PS Vitas, PSPs, and PlayStation TV units were shipped.
However Sony did not break those down so it is unclear as to how many units of each product was shipped. In total, Sony’s Game and Network services made 309.5 billion yen in revenue and also made a tidy profit of 21.8 billion yen, an increase over last year’s 4.2 billion yen operating loss.
