So yesterday we were treated to Apple’s new 5K Retina iMac which has an amazing display. But could there be a possible iMac computer in the future that would sport a touchscreen display? After all we’ve seen Windows desktop computers with touchscreen options, so why not an iMac, right?
Well the good/bad news, depending on how you look at it, is that a touchscreen iMac will not be happening. This is according to Apple’s senior VP of software engineering, Craig Federighi, who spoke to the folks at CNET. According to Federighi, the claims that a touchscreen iMac might not provide users with an optimal experience.
He was quoted as saying, “We’ve really focused on building the best track pads we can, something where it feels [like] your posture’s relaxed, it’s a comfortable machine to use. And, of course, over the years we’ve experimented with all the technology, but we found it just wasn’t good. … We’re not all that interested in building one.”
In the past there have been patent applications, but we guess Apple has ultimately decided that perhaps this isn’t the way to go for now, but what do you guys think? Are you a little disappointed or are you fine with your iMac being a regular desktop computer?
