A report from the other day revealed that Facebook and Samsung had met up in Samsung’s home country of Korea. It was speculated that given Samsung’s background and success in making smartphones, that Facebook could be thinking about reviving the Facebook phone, despite previous attempts being less than satisfactory.
That being said, it looks like we won’t be looking at another Facebook phone. According to a report from The Korea Times, it looks like Facebook and Samsung’s meeting was about virtual reality technology. For those unfamiliar, Oculus VR which is now owned by Facebook, helped Samsung develop the Samsung Gear VR, so the idea of both companies working on virtual reality technology isn’t that much of a stretch.
The report goes on to add that Samsung could be making “VR-embedded devices from Facebook’s designs, software drawing and content.” We can’t quite be sure what that means exactly, but we suppose we’ll just have to wait and see what Samsung and Facebook could be bringing to the table in the future.
The Samsung Gear VR is said to be launching in December. This is possible as the headset uses a smartphone for its display, versus the Oculus Rift which is a single device. Either way could Samsung’s VR efforts prove to be as effective as their smartphones and tablets?
