While our smartphones can perform basic functions and comes preloaded with apps that allow us to surf the web, send messages, listen to music, watch videos, and so on, there are additional apps out there that allows us to go above and beyond what a phone can typically do.
For example there are social networking apps, map apps, apps that allows us to make music on the go, edit videos, and etc., so with every release, there is one more reason to keep our eyes glued to our phones. Well it seems that over the years, our reliance and usage of apps has increased and thanks to a recent study done by Localytics (via Pocketnow), it has been found that our app usage has increased by an average of 21% from a year ago.
As you can see in the graph above, our usage time has been broken down into different categories. There are some categories which has seen a huge increase in usage, while there are some that haven’t increased as much, although they did increase nonetheless. Music appears to have the largest gain thanks to an increase in music apps such as SoundCloud and iHeartRadio, just to name some examples.
Health and fitness has also seen an increase of 51% which we can only assume can be attributed to the likes of wearables and their corresponding fitness apps. Social networking has also increased by 49%, while other categories such as travel, entertainment, sports, games, and news trail behind. It’s an interesting observation but what do you guys think? Do you find yourself using a particular group of apps more than you did from a year ago?
