Back in 2013, there was a device that launched on Kickstarter called Poppy 3D. The design of the device looked a bit like the View-Master 3D toy from back in the day, although in reality it was an accessory for the iPhone that allowed iPhone users to snap 3D photos. Given that 3D hasn’t exactly become the new standard that certain companies were hoping, it’s still a pretty awesome idea.
Now the good news is that if you were looking to get your hands on the device, you will be pleased to learn that it has been finally made available and will be up for purchase via its website where it is priced at $59.95.
For those who might have missed our coverage last time, the Poppy 3D is an accessory in which users can slide their iPhone into. Thanks to the clever use of mirrors and science, it will allow the iPhone to capture photos and videos in 3D, after which users will be able to upload them and share them with other Poppy 3D users.
While it does sound like a clever idea, it will require a dedicated app to view the content, meaning that it seems that you will not be able to share it with those who do not have the app. It is possible that 3D TVs can view the content as such TVs can use side-by-side 3D video, although we have yet to confirm it for ourselves.
