According to our report from yesterday, Microsoft had halted the rollout of the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 for the HTC 8X and the HTC 8S. Microsoft claimed that there were some issues which is why they halted the rollout and why more than a few HTC 8X/8S owners were reporting that they weren’t receiving the update.
It has been speculated it could be a driver/firmware issue and while we wait on Microsoft and HTC to propose a solution, it seems that in the meantime, HTC has posted on their support forums that the HTC 8S is not eligible for the latest Windows Phone 8.1 update after all. They claim that the handset does not meet the hardware criteria.
While HTC did not dive into any specifics, it has been speculated that the reason behind the HTC 8S’ exclusion could be due to the fact that the handset only comes with 4GB of onboard storage. Unfortunately there’s not much that can be done for now, so we guess HTC 8S owners will just have to do without the update, unless HTC/Microsoft can come up with a solution.
In the meantime HTC has also confirmed that the HTC 8X will receive the update, albeit in the near future, as they are looking to test the stability of the OS first before pushing it out to the masses. So, any HTC 8S owners disappointed by this piece of news?
