A couple of days ago, we were treated to a view of the alleged Xperia Z3 Compact front panel, alongside the rumored Xperia Z3 to boot. Taking into consideration how Sony has maintained a reasonably reliable schedule of introducing new flagship smartphones at least two times in the same calendar year, it seems that Sony intends to continue in the trend of their “Compact” range, kicking things off with the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact earlier this year.
Make no mistake about it – the “Compact” range will not follow the same route that one would see in the “mini” variants that other smartphone manufacturers roll out from time to time, where the hardware specifications have been watered down in most of such models. Sony’s “Compact” smartphone models that make up part of their Xperia range will maintain similar hardware capability without sacrificing anything else apart from screen size and form factor.
According to XDA developer DoomLoRD who tweeted the purported specs as you can see on the right, it seems that the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact will not be a pushover at all, sporting a 4.5” display at 720 x 1,280 resolution with a quad-core 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, an Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB RAM, a 20.7MP camera at the back with a decent 2.1MP front-facing camera. Running on the Android platform, we might just see the Xperia Z3 Compact arrive later this August.
