Home automation is starting to become a big thing nowadays. We’ve seen efforts from a variety of companies hoping to make a dent in the market, such as Nest, Philips, and so on. However it seems that we could have a new player in the form of Nucano who has recently launched a Kickstarter project for a product that they’re calling a smart door chime.
Now door chimes, for the most part, are pretty mundane. They let us know who’s at the door, and we guess the more hi-tech ones have cameras that let us see who’s at the door, so what makes Nucano’s offering different from the competition? Well it is because apart from it just being a door chime, they’re hoping that the device will be able to act as something more.
According to the company, the door chime will be able to connect and control other devices that they’re compatible with. Nucano numbers product compatibility to over 1,000 products, ranging from door locks, thermostats, alarms, cameras, and more. For example the door chime will be able to act as a thermometer and provide the user with temperature readings from both outside and inside the house.
It can also act as an alarm that goes off if a window is broken. It will also be able to send the user mobile alerts and video whenever the bell is rung. According to Matt Cupal, the co-founder of Nucano, “In looking at the home automation market, we felt that ease-of-use and stand-out design were missing. Fusing a smart door chime into a home intelligence hub gave us the opportunity to craft something truly unique.”
Like we said, the Nucano smart door chime is currently a Kickstarter project seeking funding. They’ve managed to raise a little over $11,000 and are hoping to hit their goal of $95,000 in the next couple of weeks, so if you’d like to learn more or pledge a donation, head on over to its KIckstarter page for the details.
