It does look as though the Sony PS4 is a winner for the consumer electronics giant Sony, as Sony president and CEO Kazuo Hirai has shared that the console has already started to turn in a profit on a per unit basis. Sharing this good news at Sony’s Corporate Strategy Meeting FY14, Hirai mentioned, “From a profitability perspective, PS4 is also already contributing profit on a hardware unit basis, establishing a very different business framework from that of previous platform businesses.”
Hirai made a reference to the amount of losses that Sony went through during the earlier years of the PS4’s predecessor, which is the Sony PS3. It was speculated that Sony would actually experience a loss when it comes to PS4 console sales for quite some time more after sharing additional details in September last year that a profit can be realized only when the Ps4 owner actually purchased PS Plus in addition to a fair number of games.
Earlier this morning, we brought you word that around half of PS4 owners do happen to subscribe to PS Plus, and that it is tipped for Sony to actually surpass the amount of profit that the legendary PS2 generated throughout its lifetime.
