Earlier this year, Motorola unveiled the Moto 360 smartwatch which is admittedly one of the nicest smartwatch designs we’ve seen to date. It looks like a regular watch which means that for those who are fashion conscious, the Moto 360 could be the device for you. Interestingly enough based on what we’ve seen so far, there does not appear to be any visible ports on the watch.
This has led to many wondering how the watch will charge, which is apparently done via a “secret” method. Well turns out that the secret has been let out, according to Philip Worth, a Motorola UK manager. Worth had reportedly spoke to Techzine, a Dutch publication, where he revealed that the Moto 360 watch will be charged via magnetic induction, which is essentially wireless charging that has been used by some smartphones in the past.
As it stands wireless charging for smartwatches hasn’t really been introduced yet, save for the Qualcomm Toq, so it will be interesting to see how well-received this feature will be. It does make sense though, not to mention it’s a lot more convenient compared to fiddling about the ports to plug the cable in. Previous speculation suggested either charging via solar or kinetic energy.
The Moto 360 is expected to be released this year in July, although pricing has yet to be determined. Earlier it was suggested to cost around $249 for the device, but Motorola has since refuted those prices. Hopefully this means that it could cost less, or if it does end up costing more, it won’t be too outrageous.
