Apple has been enjoying growth in their Mac sales but it looks like the streak that the Cupertino company has been on has finally come to an end. According to a recent press release by Lenovo, it seems that Lenovo has finally overtaken Apple in terms of PC sales over in the US market for the first time ever, which we reckon has to be a pretty big deal and could be enough to get Apple worried.
According to Lenovo, they have surpassed Apple and have taken third place in the US market, behind the likes of PC giants such as HP and Dell. They are basing this on data that has been gathered for the past three months along with additional numbers provided by the IDC. Interestingly enough Gartner has placed Lenovo in fourth place, so we guess it depends on which numbers you want to believe in.
“For the first time, Lenovo’s EMEA revenue surpassed its China PC revenue in the quarter, while in the US, Lenovo surpassed Apple to take the number three position in PC shipments in the fourth quarter.” Lenovo also revealed that if they were to combine both the PCs and tablets into a single category, they would have sold 64 million devices which is up 18% year over year.
According to Lenovo’s CEO and Chairman, Yuanqing Yang, “The record sales and profits that we delivered last year prove that Lenovo can grow and deliver its commitments, no matter the market conditions.” Will Lenovo be able to maintain their momentum, or will Apple be able to reclaim the number 3 spot in the US the next quarter? We guess we will just have to wait and find out, but it in the meantime, it certainly sounds like quite a bad week for Apple.
