The other day we reported that for some reason or the other, Twitter for Windows Phone had started to consume way more data than was necessary. This was due to the app constantly pulling profile images from Twitter’s servers, causing the app to use more data than was required or normal, and according to some reports, there were users who actually managed to hit 3GB of data within a week which is definitely not normal, at least not as far as the average user is concerned.
Well the good news is that Microsoft has since addressed the issue, issuing a statement claiming, “Microsoft has confirmed, on November 10th, that the temporary issue is now resolved.” Prior to the fix, what Microsoft had done to temporary halt the unnecessary data usage was to sync Twitter accounts to the device only once a day, which in theory should have stopped excess data from being used. The alternative would be to remove your account from the phone entirely which might be a big no-on for heavy tweeters. In any case hopefully this will resolve the issue, but if you’re still a little paranoid, you can always check on your data usage to make sure that things are indeed back to normal.
