If someone wants to transfer photos from their digital camera to their mobile device, they’ll first hook up the camera with a computer and transfer the photos to it. Then they’ll either connect their mobile devices or use a variety of different ways to get the photos on them. Eye-Fi’s new Mobi Wi-Fi enabled SD card eliminates the need of hooking up to a computer completely. The new SD card is capable of sending photos directly to a smartphone or a tablet through Wi-Fi.

Eye-Fi has released free apps for iOS and Android which act as image viewers. The best part is that there’s no compulsion for Mobi SD and the mobile device to be on the same wireless network, since the SD card is itself a hotspot, it can continue sending photo and video to a configured device. To set up the device, users will have to punch a 10 digit activation code that comes with the packaging. The Eye-Fi Mobi SD Wi-Fi card can be purchased right now, the 8GB retails for $50 and the 16GB one comes with a $80 price tag.
