If you’re a developer and you’re looking for a developer handset, HTC has announced the HTC One Developer Edition smartphone. Essentially it is the HTC One with some added features that developers might appreciate, namely an unlocked bootloader, unlocked SIM, open APIs for Bluetooth Low Energy, Infrared and more.
More importantly what the unlocked SIM means is that you will not be able to get this on contract with a carrier. This translates to having to pay full price, which is $649, for the device. It is expected to launch in limited quantities when the HTC One is released in the US, and will only be available for those with a US Zip Code, so those living overseas will not be able to find it in their region.
As a quick recap for those who might have missed the news about the HTC One. This is HTC’s new (and possibly only) flagship device for the year 2013. It will feature a 4.7” Full HD display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset clocked at 1.7GHz, 2GB of RAM, an “Ultrapixel” camera with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean running the show with HTC’s latest Sense 5 UI on top.
