Samsung and Apple are definitely not the best of buddies at this point in time, considering how their working relationship has frayed in the past year after throwing lawsuits against one another. Well, the latest news report showed that Samsung did ship twice the number of smartphones compared to Apple in the third quarter of the year, helping them retained the lead position in both handset and smartphone shipments. Senior analyst Michael Morgan said, “Samsung looks to be running away from the pack while Apple’s new product portfolio continues to eat into its decreasing gross margins. Apple will need to ship over 94 million smartphones in Q4 if it wants to match its 2011 shipment growth of 96 percent.”
Nokia has dropped out of the top 5 list for smartphone shipments worldwide in the third quarter of the year for the first time in its history, and we do hope that the grand old dame of the mobile phone world will be able to post better figures with the release of their new Windows Phone 8-powered Lumias.
