Skytex isn’t a name that comes to mind straightaway when we think about Android tablets, but the company is hoping to change that with the release of two new tablets. The company announced today that it will be releasing the SkyPad Gemini and Skypad Protos later this month. These two budget tablets won’t break any banks but with the Google Nexus 7 arriving on the market soon, they’re in for some tough competition.
The SkyPad Gemini will pack a 7″ 800 x 480 multitouch display, a 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A8 CPU, Mali 400 graphics, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, microSHC card slot, 3,000mAh battery (6 hours of battery life), mini-USB port, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. It will carry a price tag of $179.
The Skypad Protos will have a larger 9.7″ 1024 x 768 multitouch display, a 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A8 CPU, Mali 400 graphics, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of Storage, microSHC card slot, 6,000mAh battery (10 hours), mini-USB port, HDMI 1.4 output, WiFi, Bluetooth, 2-megapixel front facing camera, and a 5-megapixel rear camera. It will have an MSRP of $279.
