Rumors about the almost-legendary Galaxy S3 started to emerge last year, with bits and pieces of information about its specs going here in there. Today, Samsung has released a nice story via its official global blog apparently describing how the company’s research and development team kept the details of the GS3 project as discreet as possible.
Samsung said that although some marketers were happy about the buzz, its engineers were reportedly having a hard time keeping the device a secret. “Everything about the Galaxy S3, including patents and technology used on the device, was top secret. Accordingly, the engineers agreed that security was among the highest priorities of the Galaxy S3,” Samsung noted citing how its engineers lived a “double-life”.
One engineer said that he got so many questions about the GALAXY S3 from friends and family. “But I’d say don’t ask me or you’ll get me fired. I told them to check it out after it was officially made public,” Senior Engineer YoungDoo Jin said. Senior Engineer YongMin Ha added, “I love my wife and my adorable kids. But I just never told them about my job from the beginning.”
Samsung explained that things were a lot more special with the Galaxy S3. Unlike its previous projects, details about the device were only assigned to a few group of people. Prototypes were reportedly enclosed in boxes when moves across a hallway to prevent people from getting a glimpse of Samsung’s flagship device.
“Deliveries of prototypes to partners and suppliers abroad weren’t outsourced to 3rd party logistics services as is usual practice, but were done in person. The people in charge had to do a multi-country tour just to deliver prototypes, and testing procedures were monitored day and night to make sure no leaks in security occurred,” Samsung wrote. But perhaps the most interesting thing that Samsung did was when it developed three different prototypes of the device to confuse people if ever the designs were leaked.
