Remember the Retrode? The USB device that lets you create ROM files from your SEGA Genesis and SNES cartridges, which can then be played on your computer via an emulator? Well, the folks behind the accessory have come up with a sequel called the Retrode 2. This time around, it does more than just create ROMs. It can be used as a cartridge reader for your emulator so you can just plug and play your cartridges on your computer.
The Retrode 2 also features input ports for your SNES and SEGA Genesis controllers – which means you’ll be able to play your retro games with authentic controllers, kicking up the whole retro-gaming experience an extra notch. It is also touted to work on any device with a USB port, and with any emulator. We haven’t gotten our hands on one to put that claim to the test, but if true it could mean retro gaming on our tablets (with USB ports). The Retrode 2 will go on sale sometime in February and will retail for $84.99.
