Don’t you just love how medical technology and science has progressed over the years? The latest development allows a blood test run on a mother, where its results are able to tell the fetus’s gender at just five weeks. This is a non-invasive method which might just be made popular in due time, and some folks might wonder why one would want to go ahead of the stork and discover the gender instead of waiting for the full nine months? Well, sorry to be a party pooper, but knowing the gender of a fetus is important should the mother carry an X-chromosome gene which could potentially cause a disease like muscular dystrophy. Should the fetus be female, then there is not much worry (other than the possibility of the fetus being a carrier just like mom as well) about, but a male would run a 50% risk of inheriting the disease – and parents can then make an informed decision as whether to abort the pregnancy or go through further, invasive testing that has the possibility of a miscarriage.
