Don’t you find it rather surprising that despite the seeming leap in technological advances where the field of robotics is concerned, no one has really come up with a robot that is full well capable of making you a sandwich when you ask for one? Nice to know that this situation is about to change soon, where a robotics team from the Technical University of Munich managed to churn out a cuisine robot which is smart enough to slap together salami and cheese sandwiches as well as stovetop popcorn so that you can enjoy your sit-in movie without having to bother the girlfriend. Not only that, these robots will not take forever in fixing your snack, as they are pretty adept at turning on a stove and exhibiting dexterity and precision during the sandwich making process.
Known as James and Rosie, the robots are able to respond to orders such as “make me a sandwich”, thanks to the implementation of visual-detection systems from an Xbox Kinect. Apart from that, they will also utilize perception algorithms to assess their surroundings, and make inferences about what they see before proceeding with their tasks.
