[CES 2011] Information on MSI’s GT680 has leaked a couple of times in December 2010, but we now have the final (and official) specifications for this gaming laptop. First of all, it’s a 15.6″ laptop that has a full-HD (1980×1080) LED-backlit display. To drive that display, MSI is using a GeForce GTX 460M graphics processor (GPU) with 1.5GB of video memory. This is the previous-generation of NVIDIA GPUs, so it’s an odd choice, but “monster schedule” must have come by towards the end of the GT680 design.
On the raw processing side, there’s a new Core i7, and up to 16GB of RAM can be added to the laptop. To make game load faster, the MSI GT680 is equipped with a 120GB SSD along with up to two conventional hard drives in a RAID 0 setup (to aggregate the speed of the mechanical drives). Buyers can opt for a Blu-Ray optical drive if they want to watch 1080p movies. at 7.7lbs, this is a big computer, but it is more gaming-capable than most laptops out there, and could serve as a nice desktop replacement too. More specs in the full post.
