The Brickhouse Child Locator by Brickhouse is a device that lets you keep a constant watch on your child in public areas. This device works by attaching a tag to your child's clothes or shoes to work as a homing device should your child leave the safety zone, the Brickhouse Child Locator will alert you when that happens. The portable tracking device will beep, vibrate, and visually lead you to your (tagged) child quickly and easily. This device also comes with a “panic button” on the homing tag for your child to use in the event of an emergency. The Brickhouse Child Locator with Distance Alert is priced at $189.95.

A ten person line has been spotted outside Apple's Fifth Avenue retail store as of this Friday afternoon. As ample supply is expected, it seems unnecessary to be waiting a full week outside the store. However, the lineup is acknowledged by both security and Apple employees, some who have left the store temporarily to talk to those in line. Chairs and other apparel make it clear that they are ready for the seven-day wait. No celebrities have been spotted this time (last year Greg Packer was there). The reason for the early waiting (camping?) could be that customers are required to activate their iPhones in-store this time around, as opposed to walking out quicky with their purchases, it is estimated that the time spent processing each customer will take at least 10 minutes versus a fraction of that time previously. Still, it’s crazy :)

STARMAC is a multi vehicle test bed used to demonstrate new concepts in multi-agent control on a real-world platform. The fleet, consisting of six quadrotor vehicles that can fly indoors and outdoors as well as being able to carry computing and sensing resources sufficient for autonomous operations. Among the computing resources on board are a low level microcontroller board called the Robostix, the Gumstix Verdex for positive estimation and control, a PXA270 based single board computer and a PC-104 computer running Linux(Fedora) for onboard processing of vision information, optimal path planning and other high level automation tasks. These vehicles will be able to be used in real-world application with enough computing resources and excess lift capacity to get the job done… autonomously.

The S41 is a mini-v which can handle full versions of Microsoft software applications such as Office. A mini-v is a new category of mobile device that is in between a large tablet PC and a small PDA. Since it can function as both a tablet PC as well as a laptop it is considered to be a mini version of both; hence the term mini-v. The S41 in tablet mode is a decent gaming device, having buttons on the side of its screen for that as well as a d-pad and mouse pointer on the left, and on the right there is left and right click and the scroll up ad down hardware keys which can be bound to an action. Archos, the French consumer electronics company has announced in a joint statement with SFR that they will be teaming up to offer a 3G-enabled PMP by the end of 2008. The agreement Archos and SFR have signed is to integrate 3G+ HSDPA data modems into Archos players. With WIFI and now 3G, users will have the ability to download music on the move at all times.

Sharp will be exhibiting its latest range of environmentally friendly products during the Hokkaido Toyako Summit on July 7-9 this year. One of the more interesting items is a prototype of a 26V-inch Low Power Consumption LCD TV. In terms of energy efficiency, this prototype uses about a quarter of a 28-inch CRT TV, whilst having almost the same display area. Even if it were to be compared to today's LCD TV's, it would still be energy friendly, as it would be using about one third of their consumption.

The benefits of having such a low-power LCD TV is that it can be run from a solar module, whose surface area would roughly be the same as the viewing area of the screen, allowing it to be used in places with utility-supplied electricity is scarce. They probably mean "camping in the wild" rather than "developing countries" I think...

Our sister site, UberPhones has come across another one of those copycat phones from China. The victim this time is Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1, and probably the HTC TyTN II as well. This latest copycat looks very much like the XPERIA X1, but also has a tilting screen just like the TyTN II. Its features aren't too shabby either (so we heard), with a 5 megapixel camera, 3-inch touch screen capable of 16 million colors and built-in TV tuner.

Apple is now selling its super slim MacBook Air for $2598, down from the $3098. The cut was the result of a cut in price for two of the MacBook's components. The Intel Core 2 Duo processor upgrade for the Air's 1.8GHz was reduced to $200 from $100. The second reasons being that cost of the Flash memory based 64GB SDD drive upgrade to $599 from $999, That's nearly a 50% slash of the original price. Oh and my be the sales of that particular SKU were not no hot... Now, customers may now configure a 1.6GHz MacBook Air with a SDD Drive starting from $2398.

There are a number of situations where technology can tilt a tactical situation in favor of Police forces but it’s hard to associate Segways to any kind of tactical situation. In Paris, there are organized Segway tours and it’s not uncommon to see a poor tourist being slapped to the ground by a Segway “gone mad” – that’s my experience, at least. Anyhow, the sight of the picture above is just too ridiculous to skip, but I really hope that these guys won’t have to shoot anyone in this precarious position. Most users are growing accustomed to manufacturer's way of getting out of tight spots. Is your console having problems? Well, a firmware update will normally fix it. Unfortunately, this clearly isn't the case with Sony's latest 2.40 firmware upgrade for the Playstation 3. Problems range from microphone issues to frozen consoles, and this has prompted Sony to pull the upgrade for the moment. Unfortunately for most users, sites are stating that the only known fix at the moment is a hard drive reformat, which will effectively wipe all the current saved game data.

Nikon has just released a firmware upgrade for the D3, and here are a few of them improvements.

• Images captured with “Rotate tall”, in the playback menu, set to “On”, are not automatically rotated for display immediately after capture (image review)
• The “Choose image area” option has been separated into two options, “Choose image area (FX / DX / 5:4)” and “Choose image area (FX / DX)”
• A new “Shooting menu bank” option has been added
• “Recent settings” can now be displayed in place of “My Menu”
• The virtual horizon can now be displayed with shooting in LiveView mode
• The “Vignette control” setting can now be confimed in shooting information
• The “Vignette control” item in the shooting menu now supports all types of G- and D-type lenses, except DX and PC lenses
• Autofocus performance has been improved
• Auto White Balance performance has been improved
• An issue that, in some rare circumstances, caused the battery indicator to blink, regardless of actual battery charge, has been resolved
• Errors in the German help displays have been corrected
